This looks to be a nice 3 day weather weekend!

For Saturday, take a hike, visit a local shop or how about a free fair? Visit the Windsor Fair on Sunday. Invite friends over for Monday Labor Day festivities or check out a local apple orchard.

APPLE SHED BAKERY & MUDDY ROOTS, KENTS HILL

If you are craving some delicious foods and treats, this is your place. The Apple Shed bakery is a little gem! They offer a TON of homemade frozen dinners you can grab and heat up at home, fresh baked breads and pastries, pizza, coffee, wines, jellies, candies and more. I have had some delicious haddock chowder from here. It might be a little shop, but they have a lot to offer.

A local bonus…they are right next door to Muddy Roots Nursery & Gallery, which is open on weekends. Grab a coffee and pastry at the Apple Shed and walk over to browse through their variety of landscaping trees, plants and shrubs. You can get your flower gardens ready for spring. LAKESIDE STATION AND ARTISAN SHOP, BELGRADE

If you enjoy exploring new shops and quintessential towns, this is it. Here is a boutique featuring handcrafted treasures from local artisans in a restored train station. A visit here with a local dining experience at the Cork and Cow in Belgrade would make for a relaxing afternoon. Kennebec Highlands/Rome/Vienna

3.3 miles/ Moderate

You don’t have to drive to western Maine for mountain views! Round Top Mountain winds through the beautiful Kennebec Highlands, climbing to 1,133 feet with rocky outlooks and sweeping views over the surrounding lakes and hills. Along the way, you’ll hike through hardwood and evergreen forest and even pass remnants of an old granite quarry. The trailhead is off Watson Pond Road.

1972 Dummer House is being restored and converted into a duplex by Hitchcock & Co. for $20,000. They have 18 months for completion. The house was previously owned by Linda Bean (granddaughter of L.L.Bean) and was left to the Row House in her will after she passed in 2024.

A little house history…

“In 1789 Nathaniel Dummer moved to Hallowell with his wife and five children. We have learned of the successes and honor that have here crowned his life. We also know of the charm and happiness in the social life of the rapidly growing village at the Hook. Old Hallowell on the Kennebec, Nason, 1909.

Nathaniel Dummer held several prominent roles in the civic life of Hallowell. He served as the town's first postmaster from 1794 to 1802. As a judge on the Court of Common Pleas in Kennebec County, in 1794 he presided over a paternity case involving one of Martha Ballard's patients. Such suits often relied upon the record of midwives who confirmed the identity of fathers by taking testimony from mothers at the height of labor. Martha Ballard's diary also states that Ephraim Ballard attended the raising of Nathaniel Dummer's house on June 19, 1792.

Judge Dummer died in Hallowell, September 15, 1815, and "seldom." as the old records tell us, "has a death in this part of the country produced a more general sympathy." His widow, who survived him for a number of years, wa much beloved and respected in the community (Nason).”

Fayette

Sept 8th: Celestial Bash: An Evening of Stargazing and Astronomy 7-8PM. Located at the Oak Hill Conservation Area in Fayette. Led by John Meader of Northern Stars Planetarium. Includes hands on stargazing with telescopes if skies are clear. $15.
