SEED & PLANT
We’re getting closer despite the last snow dump. Time to start thinking seeds.
GROW YOUR OWN ORGANIC GARDEN
APRIL 1ST 6-7:30PM
Grow Your Own Organic Garden covers all the basics of organic gardening.
Learn about supporting soil and plant health, starting seeds indoors and outdoors, interplanting, pest management, watering, and harvesting. By the end of this class, participants will be equipped with knowledge of how to grow an organic garden, be connected to resources and community members that will help them grow an organic garden, and feel ready to take the first steps toward doing so. We’ll even send you home with some seeds to start in your own garden! Classes are held at the following locations:
Augusta Adult & Community (Augusta)
March 29th 12-4PM
Gardeners and orchardists are invited to bring their seeds, scionwood and cuttings to share. If you don’t have any, come anyway! There’s plenty of seeds and scion.
We also regularly have over 150+ types of scionwood to share, including those sourced from MOFGA’s orchards. We will also have limited quantities of rootstock for sale. Custom grafting is available by donation to the Maine Heritage Orchard.
Thursday, March 19 (6:00–7:30 p.m.) Breeding Birds of Kennebec County: 1890s to the Present
Glenn Hodgkins of the Augusta Birding Club will examine how bird communities in Kennebec County have changed over the past 130 years, drawing on historic records and recent atlas data.

LOOK UP! SKY EVENTS THIS WEEK
Here’s some pretty neat events to look up at.
First Quarter Moon
Best nights: March 25–27
The moon is in its first quarter phase, meaning: super bright, half-lit, great for casual viewing
Moon & Jupiter Pairing
Around March 26–27
The Moon will pass close to Jupiter, creating a really noticeable pairing in the sky. What to look for: A bright “star” next to the moon — that’s Jupiter.
Bright Planets Still Visible After Sunset
Right now you can still spot: Jupiter (very bright), Saturn (lower, after sunset), sometimes Venus depending on timing
